PLASMA PEN: A UNIQUE TREATMENT FOR MORE YOUTHFUL SKIN

For years people have tried to find the magic serum or pill that would keep their skin from aging. The older we get, the more and more money we spend on attempting to keep the wrinkles at bay – and nothing ever seems to work! Finding the perfect solution to combat aging skin can feel like a never ending battle but thanks to developing technology, there are now more anti-aging methods than ever before. A treatment that is rapidly becoming more popular is the use of plasma pens – a non-invasive way to tighten, lift, resurface, and regenerate your skin!

How Does It Work?

The Plasma Pens is an FDA approved tool that uses fibroblast technology to stimulate increased production of collagen in your skin. These tiny controlled traumas to the epidermis cause the outermost layer of skin to create thin sheets of carbon crusts, which fall off within a few days, revealing beautiful and rejuvenated skin.

It is a non-invasive procedure that requires no scalpels, stitches, sutures or injectable anesthetic of any kind. It is a low risk procedure with minimal side effects, little to no downtime, and most patients are able to return to work the very same day after the procedure.

What do Plasma Pen treatments target?

  • Fine Lines & Wrinkles – crows feet, forehead lines, smile lines, accordion lines, marionette lines, neck lines, etc.
  • Jawline Tightening
  • Acne Scars
  • Upper and Lower Eyelids – hoods or under eye bags
  • Stretch Marks

This advanced form of skin care gives you great results without the dangers of a more invasive procedure like botox, fillers, or plastic surgery. It is a non-surgical procedure that generates immediate and long lasting results with no bruising, bleeding or extensive healing process.

Do you want your skin back to what it used to be? Our Plasma Pen treatments are a safe and easy way to start looking – and feeling – more like your younger self!

LOW TESTOSTERONE MAY CONTRIBUTE TO DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY IN MEN AND WOMEN

We traditionally think about testosterone helping with energy, sexual interest, erectile dysfunction and libido. When we look closely at medical studies, we find a link to depression and anxiety when testosterone is low.

I’ll repeat it: Low testosterone levels may increase the risk of depression and anxiety. Higher testosterone levels decrease the risk of depression and anxiety. Taking testosterone (testosterone therapy) if your levels are low often improves depression and anxiety.

Testosterone levels are tested with blood tests at our clinics. Blood testosterone tests give providers an accurate idea of the amount of testosterone that is available to be used by your body.

Testosterone levels can be raised in numerous different ways and require a prescription from the provider at New Leaf Wellness. New Leaf Specialty Pharmacy specializes in compounding personalized testosterone and other hormones. At New Leaf  Wellness, we also have NLRx supplements that can support your wellness.

Once you start testosterone therapy it will take 2 weeks or sometimes longer to see how well testosterone helps with depression, anxiety and other health issues.

There are many other factors that can contribute to depression and anxiety including nutrient deficiencies, let’s get you feeling better! New Leaf Specialty Pharmacy specializes in compounded personalized prescriptions of testosterone and hormone therapy prescribed by our providers.  We can help; contact us for more information…

VITAMIN D FOR IMMUNE SYSTEM SUPPORT

Winter is almost over, but with winter months come more illness. There are good reasons why we tend to see more illness during the winter months. One of those reasons is lower Vitamin D levels. As spring approaches it is vital you get your Vitamin D levels back to their optimal levels.

Humans are supposed to get over 90% of their vitamin D from the sun (diet provides very little), and the recommended Daily Value (or previously the RDA) assumed that most people received plenty of vitamin D from the sun. Our ancestors (both ancient and recent) spent a lot of time outdoors in the sun. However, in today’s modern world many people do not get enough vitamin D even during the summer months. People living in northern locales get even less. If you haven’t had your vitamin D levels checked (and most people have not) we highly recommend asking your New Leaf Provider about it. In America, most people test insufficient or deficient for this important vitamin. It is thought that most people need from 7,500-20,000 IUs per day (from all sources, including sun) to meet our needs; we need more when we’re sick or stressed.

Vitamin D helps our immune systems stay balanced during the cold and flu season. There are Vitamin D receptors and activating enzymes on the surfaces of all White Blood Cells. The role that vitamin D plays in keeping the immune system healthy is very complex because the immune system has to be perfectly balanced. If there is too much stimulation, autoimmune diseases can set in. If there is not enough immune system activity, frequent infections can occur.

Low levels of vitamin D have been linked with both extremes, including being associated with worsening autoimmune diseases. Low levels of vitamin D are not the underlying cause of the autoimmune disease, but low levels of vitamin D can make autoimmune disease states worse. Low levels of vitamin D have also been associated with frequent infections. In 2009, the National Institute of Health warned that low vitamin D levels are associated with frequent colds and influenza.

So it appears that vitamin D helps keep the immune system balanced much like a gymnast walking on a balance beam. It is important that daily and weekly vitamin D supplementation help keep your immune system balanced during the cold and flu season.

Epionce, The Power of Botanicals

Epionce products combine the power of botanicals and active complexes for clinical results you can see. At New Leaf Wellness, we like to incorporate natural options for our body to better bounce back

A Simple Approach

Actually, Epionce products are hand-selected for their efficacy to address a variety of skin issues including signs of aging, rough or uneven skin texture and dark spots. In fact, the unique blend of botanical ingredients in every Epionce product works synergistically to reveal:

  • Radiant, healthier-looking skin
  • Improve the visible effects of aging

Does It Work?

Short answer, yes. But let’s take a deeper dive about why… Established on decades of skin research by founder Dr. Carl Thornfeldt, Epionce is backed by over 16 independent clinical studies using the finished, market-ready products on patients. Also, studies have demonstrated superior results from Epionce regimens that utilized botanical ingredients, proving that beautiful, healthy-looking skin can be achieved without the “pain to get the gain” characterized by harsh, irritating ingredients.

Most notably, flagship Renewal Facial Cream, when used with Lytic Tx, displayed superior results against the gold-standard anti-aging retinoid for visible improvement of skin aging. So by employing a blend of unique botanicals and active complexes—in stable formulations—both products work together to provide clinically proven anti-aging results.

Don’t wait, contact your Epionce skin care professional to find the best products for your unique skin.

Save Your Skin During the Holidays!

We’ve compiled 7 best ways to save your skin during the holidays, so you don’t have to play catch up in January. It is bad enough the credit card bills come piling in, do we also need the wrinkles and dry skin? Shopping, parties, family in town, traveling, etc. there are so many things going on this time of year, sometimes neglecting ourselves in the process and even our skin.

Healthy Skin in December

1. Wear Your Sunscreen- Even though the sun is gone, we still need to be aware of the UVA rays that are present year round. These are the rays that can cause skin cancer and premature aging.

2. If you’re stressed out, your skin will show it. I know that being “stress free” isn’t always an option but it’s important to take a time-out every once in a while. Go do some yoga, get a pedicure, a facial (call New Leaf Wellness) or just relax by the fire. We all know these things but we need to be reminded.

3. Manicures- All your running around at the malls and cooking are going to wreak havoc on your hands and nails. Mix any oil (olive, jojoba, grape seed) with a lotion or apply by itself for extra hydration to save your skin for cracking and bleeding.

4. Chapped Lips- This is when you need a Lip BALM, not a chapstick. A balm will heal your lips and a chapstick will protect your lips. Burt’s Bees is my absolute favorite.

Enjoy this post? See 5 Easy Tips for a Healthy Skincare Regimen for more ways to save your skin! >

5. Sore Feet- Peppermint is the answer. You can find it in scrubs and lotions and it will make your feet feel fantastic! Or add peppermint oil to your current favorite lotion!

6. Dry Skin-  Did you know that people with dry skin tend to age faster than those with oily skin? Yep, there is an advantage to oily skin. Keep your skin hydrated and not just your face. I’m obsessed with grapeseed oil right now so that is my go-to oil but whatever works for you is good. Just make sure you use it consistently. Those heaters can dry out our skin and make things worse.

7. Makeup- Keep it light and dewy and wash your face every night!

Part 2: How Do Bio-Identical Pellets Work?

Bio-identical pellets are made of an inert substance that holds it together along with either bio-identical Testosterone or Estradiol. If you require Estradiol it is one small pellet. Men, and also women, require Testosterone. There are different dosages (mg) of Testosterone pellets (25 mg up to 200 mg) and which mg pellet and how many Testosterone pellets you receive depends on the end dose that you require. This dosage is based on whether you are a man or woman, your weight, your baseline Testosterone level, and your activity level; among other things. A hormone specialist can determine what you require after your consultation. Want to learn more about how do bio-identical pellets work?

The Bio-identical pellets release a small amount of the hormone that they contain into the blood stream at a fairly constant level–a lot like your glands would do if they were functioning properly. When you have an increased cardiac output (I.e. with exercising) then you will get an increased amount of the hormone. This helps you to recover better from exercising.

The bio-identical hormone pellets give your body what it needs in as close to physiologic doses as is possible. Your body uses up the pellets at an individual rate and most people require a re-pellet after 3-6 months. Over time most people end up being able to have their pellets last 5-6 months.

Are you ready to check your hormone health? Take a short quiz to recognize what to look for when considering if you would be a good candidate for bio-identical pellets.

More On Microneedling at New Leaf Wellness

Micro-needling also called derma rolling or collagen induction therapy is very popular amongst celebrities. Micro-needling, also known as skin needling is a procedure using a device covered with tiny, shallow needles to essentially poke holes in the skin surface. The therapy is very therapeutic, since they cause a ‘micro injury’ that prompts skin to stimulate collagen production, filling in fine lines, plumping the skin and contributing to a younger looking appearance. It’s a medical breakthrough because it can produce collagen without permanently injuring the top layer of the skin. Here’s more on micro-needling at New Leaf Wellness and how it works.

Concept of Micro-needling

The concept is quite simple when skin is injured or punctured fibroblast cells which are responsible for producing collagen fill the holes or injured areas with collagen, filling in fine lines, wrinkles and scarring. Micro-needling works great for sunken areas on the skin caused by acne or chickenpox, as well as for fine lines, discoloration and general skin rejuvenation. This safe procedure isn’t just for the face, though. It can also be used on many areas of the body, including the arms, neck, legs, abdomen, back and hands. The process typically takes less than 30 minutes, and afterward, your skin can be somewhat red, similar to a sunburn. It takes only a couple of days for skin to look fairly normal, but results gradually become apparent. Natural collagen growth happens over weeks and months, so it isn’t an instant fix, but your skin will be much improved over the long term.

“I love that New Leaf has added aesthetics! I have done Botox as well as Micropenning and have seen great results! My skin is clearer and just has a fresh look about it. It is great that New Leaf offers services that can help you from the inside out!”    – Caitlin S., New Leaf Wellness Patient, more testimonials here

You may need more than one treatment.

This isn’t a one and done procedure. Depending on the skin areas treated and what you’re trying to achieve, somewhere between three and six micro-needling treatments are typically required for optimal results. Those looking to treat deep wrinkles, stretch marks, severe sun damage or scarring may need six or more micro-needling treatments. To ensure the safety of your skin, treatments are usually spaced out three weeks to a month apart. Medical micro-needling belongs only in the hands of a skilled professional trained in the technique. Perish the thought of anyone going around and poking their own face in pursuit of skin health and beauty. Life happens but, in the right hands and with the right tools, it doesn’t have to show on your skin. Micro-needling can also be used as an easy complexion pick-me-up. Combined with antioxidants and hyaluronic acid, micro-needling can deliver instant plumping, making it a great treatment to do several days before a big event. But that comes with a big proviso that you’ve had it tested first to know for a fact that your skin can tolerate it. It’s not uncommon that after the first few treatments at least, your skin will be slightly red and may feel sunburnt.

Why Add a Hyaluronic Acid to Your Skincare Regimen?

Why add a Hyaluronic Acid to your skincare regimen?

Is it good for acne and also normal to dry skin?

Hyaluronic acid is phenomenally helpful for all skin types. For those with oily skin, and sensitive or normal skin hyaluronic acid does remarkable things in the skin. Most acne patients are terrified of the word moisturizer, but Hyaluronic Acid is exceptionally lightweight texture that feels weightless on skin even though it has such concentrated moisturizing properties. It also replenishes moisture level so the helping the skin from overproducing oil. For those with sensitive skin it’s also incredibly gentle but drenches skin with long-lasting hydration.

“You don’t want the audience to be staring at your frown lines when you’re playing a beautiful song.”

– Brooke, 31 age, NLW Patient

10 Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid

The dermatologic and aesthetic benefits of Hyaluronic Acid Serum are too numerous to count. Here are just ten of the amazing ways hyaluronic acid enhances the health and appearance of your skin.

  1. Hydration – Able to hold up to 1000 times its molecular weight in water, hyaluronic acid penetrates the skin and binds skin cells to water, infusing all layers of the skin with valuable, rejuvenating moisture.
  2. Humectant – After infusing the epidermis with valuable moisture, hyaluronic acid continues to draw moisture in from the surrounding environment to provide lasting hydration benefits.
  3. Lipid barrier enhancement – Hyaluronic acid fortifies the skin’s natural barriers to lock moisture in for an even more dramatic hydrating effect.
  4. Increased resilience – By enhancing the skin’s natural barriers, the skin is better able to defend itself against environmental age-factors and pollutants.
  5. Tighter skin tone – As it fills the skin with moisture, Hyaluronic acid tightens the overall complexion and firms facial contours for a more youthful appearance.
  6. Smoother texture – Much in the same way it tightens the skin, it also smoothes the texture of the skin for a silky smooth finish you can see and feel.
  7. Less visible fine lines and wrinkles – Hyaluronic acid reduces the size and visibility of fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating skin cell production of collagen and elastin, two fibers that contribute to skin elasticity.
  8. Stimulates skin cell regeneration – In addition to stimulating skin cell production of collagen, hyaluronic acid promotes skin cell regeneration for healthier cells and a more vibrant complexion.
  9. Pigmentation – A description of hyaluronic acid wouldn’t be compete without mentioning ability to reduce and prevent age spots and pigmentation issues.
  10. Clarity – By promoting proper moisture balance in the skin, hyaluronic acid prevents the over-production of oil that clogs pores to cause breakouts.

“I’m a competitive person by nature and my appearance is important to me.” – Clint, age 54, NLW Patient

Dermaplaning 101

Will My Hair Grow Back Darker or Thicker?

No it won’t grow back thicker or darker.  There are different types of hair on your body.  Vellus hair aka “Peach Fuzz” is the kind that grows on your face, your upper forearm, the tops of your feet. It’s the finest hair on your body, and it will remain the same color and texture regardless of how many times it’s been removed. The hair on your eyebrows and legs is called terminal hair, these hairs are thicker and coarser and they will always stay that way.  Because of this you really don’t notice when vellus hair grows back as you would when your leg hair is getting longer and you can feel all the stubble.

What Are The Benefits of Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a manual form of exfoliation that takes off the top layer of superficial dead skin sitting on the epidermis along with all the “fuzz”. It differs from Microdermabrasion, which is also a manual exfoliation, because that service doesn’t remove hair. Hair can hold excess dirt and oils which can clog pores so it’s important to remove them to avoid breakouts.  Dermplaning also triggers cell regeneration which allows anything you use at home to penetrate deeper into the skin. We always tell our clients, why should you let your expensive skincare products sit on dead skin and hair when they can do their job so much better once they’re removed. Once all the guck is gone, you’ll  be able to use less product which is a nice financial bonus. In addition, the other comment we hear most is how much better makeup goes on and stays on once the hair is gone.

Can Your Get Dermaplaning If You Have Severe Acne?

The safe answer is, no. Dermaplaning can spread active acne.  However, If it’s just a spot here and there then we can work around it.

Who Is A Good Candidate?

Anyone who feels like their skin needs a pick me up. If you find your skin is dry, hyper-pigmented, aging, has fine lines and wrinkles or acne scarring, you should try dermaplaning.  If you’re tired of pulling down your driver side mirror and seeing the fuzz glowing in the light, you’ll love the results. It’s even safe for pregnant and breastfeeding clients. The word we feel best describes the after effects of dermaplaning is GLOW.

How Does The Procedure Work? How Is It Done?

It sounds scarier then it is. It’s done with a surgical scalpel and due to the fact that it has no guard on it, it’s essentially like getting a the best straight razor shave you’ve ever had (ask the guys about this) minus the lathering foam. It’s not painful and in fact most of our clients find it really soothing and many fall asleep. Someone equated it to a cat licking your face and that’s pretty accurate.

Can It Be Performed With Other Services? If So, Which Ones?

Dermaplaning can be performed with a facial which allows for a deep cleansing prior and follows with a skin specific mask, or you can do it as a stand-alone service. For those looking for even deeper exfoliation, we recommend pairing it with one of our organic facials. We are actually introducing a new protocol for our dermaplaning and peels therapy that includes natural enzyme and lactic acid peels to deep clean pores, even out skin tone, reduce hyperpigmentation and stimulate collagen production to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The end result is truly transformative. We’ve found peels that are super effective yet require no downtime. But truly, there’s no wrong way to incorporate dermaplaning into your beauty routine.

How Frequently Should I Have The Procedure Performed?

Most people turn their skin over every 4 weeks but some don’t have as much peach fuzz as others so based on personal preference every 4-6 weeks is ideal.  Once you feel the baby smooth skin the first time it is hard not to get addicted.
